Here in Ireland, in snow packed West Kerry in particular, January 6th is known as Womens Christmas. Its a tradition for women to down domestic tools and go out to celebrate the day. Happy New Year from Eire.

Very best wishes to you for the Year, all the way from Athens, Greece. Epiphany is still celebrated here, and apart from an excuse for an extra day's holiday, it carries a real meaning - for all who can see a glimmer of hope for Light ahead. It is no coincidence that Epiphany is also called the Lights in common usage among Greeks!

Here in my anglophone part of Canada, I've always been bemused that in most households Christmas screeches to a stop on 26 December. Even though everybody knows the lyrics of a certain carol enumerating the 12 days of Christmas, hardly anyone pays any mind to Twelfth Night or Epiphany in real life. That said, Happy Twelfth Night!
