Traditionally, the French save their holiday greetings until after new year. In fact, it’s not until Twelfth Night, almost two weeks later, that the holiday season traditional comes to an end. The occasion is marked by the consumption of a galette des rois or Cake of the Kings - the “kings” being those who, according to legend, arrived in Bethlehem with gold, incense and myrrh.
In line with this custom, I attach our greetings card, with the hope that - all present indications to the contrary - 2025 will be happy and prosperous. Ring out, wild bells: let joy be unconfined!
Here in Ireland, in snow packed West Kerry in particular, January 6th is known as Womens Christmas. Its a tradition for women to down domestic tools and go out to celebrate the day. Happy New Year from Eire.
Very best wishes to you for the Year, all the way from Athens, Greece. Epiphany is still celebrated here, and apart from an excuse for an extra day's holiday, it carries a real meaning - for all who can see a glimmer of hope for Light ahead. It is no coincidence that Epiphany is also called the Lights in common usage among Greeks!
